Is this not a cash grab???

Re: Is this not a cash grab???

Here's some cornstarch for the plot...
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Disney and co. (I think Mike Eisner specifically) owns the rights to the happy birthday song. Either him or Rupert Murdoch. I may be butchering...NO! It's AOL....AOL Time Warner owns the rights to the happy birthday song, and technically, you could be charged to pay the little yellow man and bugs bunny whenever you sing it at a social gathering. If that ain't a kick in the pants, then I dunno what is.

Re: Is this not a cash grab???

yeah, when I was in college this kid thought he was the shtuff because he knew what "TRUNDLE" is...apparently, it's a weight sensing device that sits below the street to control stop lights according to the presence of a car. So if nobody's waiting in the adjacent intersection, the light will never turn red. Likewise, if there are a lot of cars, the light will turn quicker to decongest the greatest ammount of traffic....or maybe that kid made it up.

Re: Is this not a cash grab???

Man do you ever get some cool info on this site. Thanks Hill I always suspected there was some device burried under the street and now I know it's the Trundle device.

Cool name for a flick

"The trundle device" ;D

Re: Is this not a cash grab???

I thought it was some old lady in Iowa that owned the rights to happy birthday.

David: Peoplebeing "nice" like that drive me nuts. I try and remember that they have good intentions, but it's very short sighted and dangerous.

Re: Is this not a cash grab???

Nice people really suck sometimes...
Freakin, if we're at a four-way and you have the go, then GO! Don't WAVE me on....sheesh.

But I'm funny because I always cause awkward pileups at doorways...because I like to open doors for people, but some people don't feel comfortable letting a black guy open a door for them...or sometimes if the door swings the wrong way, even though it's a courtesy to the person it's actually more awkward to hold the door instead of going through.
And what pisses me off is when I try to hold the door for a lady, and she won't go through because she thinks I just want to look at her arsey as she walks in. Good Lord. Way to make a man a cynic! LOL

Re: Is this not a cash grab???

I understand that technically, the law is prob on the side of the Critereon people, but gimme a break. The day care my daughter used to go to (umpteen years ago, mind you) would always play videos for the kids. Disney or whatever they wanted to see. And it was a non-profit daycare as well. I would have been upset if the place had to pay in order to show the kids a good time for an hour and a half.

I'm with Emigrant on this one, even if the law is not.

Heck, I've been to drs offices that routinely show Disney movies in the waiting room for kids, and I am sure they dont pay to do that. (I've worked for them)

Maybe the daycare and plead a financial hardship case and get the fees dropped or reduced.

Two little old ladies wrote the song. Don't know what happened to the rights after that. Maybe their estate still owns them.

What wrinkles the fabric more is that this long line of now-stopped cars blocks a fire station.

Re: Is this not a cash grab???

Hill- dont ever stop opening doors for the ladies, just be sure you're looking them in the eyes when you smile politely to let them pass. ;D

Re: Is this not a cash grab???

yeah, I'm hanging in there with the chivalry. A few sincere "thank yous" far outweigh having to deal with the paranoid and the impolite.
