Is This Normal?

I have a DVX100A and 2 batteries the original battery which is the CGA-D54s 5400mAh and the free battery which came as a rebate CGR-D16 1600mAh.

I can get 8hrs out of the 1600mAh and 2-3hrs out of the 5400mAh?

Shouldn't the CGA-D54s 5400mAh last longer? Plus it's more expensive then the 1600mAH, really confused.

save some money and get the dvx user batts or spec-comm.com also has good batts for 99$ but to answer your question the d54 last longer.

I might have to pick up a couple from here or Spec, thanks. Yeah, I thought the d54 was suppose to last longer... maybe a defect or something...

A CGA-D54s 5400mAh battery should power your cam for at least 5 hours, that is recording or paused (about the same power draw), do not include "stand by" mode. There is no way a DVX100A can record for several hours on the 1600mah battery.
Do not confuse actual recording with the "stand by".
