For the first time in my FCP working experience i'm seeng something i've only seen in GH1 and GH2 low light recording. Immediately i press the play button on the canvas or view, the clip changes color, i have never seen FCP doing this before.

I haven't seen this happen, since when is this normal? I have to deal with Magic Bullet giving me a total different appearance in the LooksBuilder, but a freeze frame on the timeline has never appeared different then the actual playback.

You can't judge image quality nor color grade by your computer screen, period. Have you checked it on a broadcast monitor?

What you get in the FCP canvas window is only an approximation based on what hardware you have, so FCP can give you the best real time playback. SDI output to a broadcast monitor is the only way to see the true image. What hardware are you running, what are your RT settings, what are you render settings?

I get that it's not accurate as other alternatives, but why would it differentiate from pause to playback?

Exactly what i'm wondering, BenB has a point, i think i changed the RT settings after frame drop warning pop-up by disabling it. J Davis point could also be an issue, for the first time i used Clipwrap instead of my usual workflow through log and transfer.

During play back the image has to be degraded more to keep up with the many frames per second, than it does with one fulltime frame when still.

I'd always use the camera manufactures own plugin for Log & Transfer for bringing in footage. Nothing will do a better job. DSLR and AVCHD can be brought in as ProRes LT, less stress on your CPU, better performance, absolutely no loss of image quality.

There aren't any images in the OP so not sure what to say. But I seen for a few years that when I had the canvas set to a white background that the gamma would shift between pause and playback. Took a while to figure out the commonality, white background was it for me every time.
