IS this LCD usable?

Don't let that resolution value fool you (1440 * 234) , it's really just 480 * 234. That's the same res as cheap portable dvd players.

I myself bought a portable dvd and though I couldn't find the res specs for it I know it looks better than the other models which I suspect were 480 * 234. It was only about US $120 and I love it. Unless you're loaded or need accurate color representaion then I think portable dvd players are an excellent way to go. I have a brevis 35mm adaptor and the monitor is great for focus.

For HD? Most people will tell you you´ll need component in and a higher res monitor for that (like the Marshall, Ikan or Totevision...), otherwise you can stick to the HVX low res flipout with focus assist...

If you have the money get a brand that Spartacus mention.

For the purpose of focus only, the portable dvd player I'm using does the job nicely.

The focus assist is a great feature - very useable but just not practicle enough when pulling focus with and adaptor.

Are you shooting HD with this setup?

Yeah, usually 1080 24pa or 720 for slow mo. You usually just see the in focus area 'pop'. Trust me, I'd definately love a marsahll or similar but I gotta eat.

Hi there thanks for the response so far tmnt, spartacus.

Just looking at the spec of the marshall, their resolution seem to be the same?

http://www.avdeals.com/marshall/lcdRack/VR70DP.htm

or this one that's $2000,

http://www.lcdracks.com/monitors/vr70phdsdi.html

infact it's resolution is 800 x 480.

Man this is confusing.

ANOTHER question, say the camera is in 1080i mode, will it output through the S-Video out ? Since component won't work with these screens?

I'm not to worried about color, since the primary function is to see focus on cam, cause I'm adding a Redrock M2 in about a months time.

Thanks,
Derrick
Thanks,
Derrick

Ok,
the missunderstanding is: all these 7" only offer around 800x480 in resolution, still focusing is a lot easier for HD shooting than on the camera LCDs (At least via component /SDI, tmnt says CVBS also works...)

Ok Spartacus, thanks, things are becoming a tad clearer i think.

Now, that means even though you go out with component into the screen, the screen still will have to downconvert the image to fit on the screen.

So for focus purposes on a 7" going out with the yellow RCA out, is going to serve you same as using component, since the screen resolution can't natively display HD ?

Then why do these guys call it a HD/SD monitor?
