Is this a marketable casting choice of actor for a thriller?

I have a script I want to do for a feature length thriller. The premise is somewhat basic, with some newer twists and turns for it's genre. A woman is a rape victim and is transformed into a psycho anti-heroine type. However in most movies like this, the woman is always goodlooking. I've worked with an actress before who is perfect at playing psycho and said she'd probably be interested since she likes working with me. But she doesn't look anything like the anti-heroines from these types of thrillers. In fact she's very average looking, and is somewhat overweight. She probably is no better looking than say, Kathy Bates, but maybe a little, depending on opinion. She is good at playing it psycho though, which is why I think she'd be perfect, and has worked well before. Do you think audiences will accept an anti-heroine of this genre with those looks as long as the performance is good?

Yup! Audiences will pretty much forgive anything except bad sound but if it's a riveting performance and the story keeps their interest, no worries.

So, if your heroine can't be eye candy then make sure she is brain candy by stimulating the audience with her performance, but then again she has to have a great script to work with also, but good luck.

Monster comes to mind. And to actually answer your question, no, I don't think using a local actress is ever a "marketable" choice to make, though it may be an excellent one.

Do you have a clip with her playing psycho? We can tell you if she's believable....It's better to ask some people in advance then to start shooting the film and realize that it simply doesn't work...
In fact it's better to shoot every actor who comes to the casting and then post the clips on the net and ask people on forums who they like more...Ohhh...and make sure you have their permission to put the clips on Youtube...
