Is there something wrong with Amazon?

Canon HV20 (Brand New) -> $872.99
- New: $599.99
- Refurbished: $468.00
- Used: $450.99

Canon HV30 (Brand New) -> $599.95
- New: $599.95
- Used: $750.00

Now I know the 'Canon HV40' is apparently coming out, or so it say's on there page..

Canon HV40 (Pre-Order) -> $999.99

But I have (1,205.98 GBP) which is apparently.. $1,814.61

I'm looking to get 2 Canon camera's, then hopefully some change left over to get a few bits and bobs..
Green Screen kit, Lights, Tapes, Crane, Dollys, Chicks.. whatever.

But I see an error in the prices on Amazon, am I missing an obvious point? Or should the HV20 be cheaper than 862. At least.. the HV20 and HV30 should be at different prices, not the same? Does anyone know anywhere else I could get one of these for cheap?

Thanks for reading. :)

I assume you're looking at the Amazon uk pages. Amazon itself aren't selling the Canon HV20, but Altecweb UK. Its part of their Merchant scheme which allows other firms to sell on Amazon. If you buy the Canon HV30 you'll get it direct from Amazon.

Since you're putting all the prices in dollars, I'm guessing you're looking at the US Amazon? None of the HV20's or HV30's I saw there were actually being sold by Amazon, but from other sellers using Amazon as their web store, so they can set whatever price they want, regardless of whether it makes any sense at all. (BTW, none of those sellers looked particularly reputable to me.) I didn't actually see an HV30 at $599, but considering that even B&H had the HV30 at $750, I wouldn't trust anybody selling it at that price as far as I could throw them...

The HV40 pre-order is actually from Amazon, so that's probably a more realistic price.

This close to the HV40 launch, if Amazon's date is correct, I'd imagine that a good number of places have sold out of the 30; any time Canon changes models, there's usually about a month where there's no damn units available because the old ones have sold out and the new ones aren't ready yet.

I was looking at the USA site yes. (There's links in the post)

So It's pretty recommendable, from a couple of people - don't purchase a Canon HV20/30 because of the cheap prices, from external companies.

Just be careful who you order from if it's not Amazon itself. My credit card was used by a merchant that I dealt with on Amazon for some small item I bought, they charged $100 on my card but my credit company blocked the charge, I then had to get a new credit card issued. I can't believe a MERCHANT tried to use my card number.

Not all merchants are honest on there, so be careful.
