I have a music video that a client wants burned to dvd. Its dslr footage and ive tried exporting it to mpeg-2, mp4, and .avi with no luck. Either the file size is too big for dvd or the original quality I have is seriously degraded after it is burned. Im burning with windows dvd maker.

First off, did you search through the forum at all? There's a sticky in the first page that says "Read this if you're lost:Best Encoding Practices." Second, what camera did you use? Third, i highly doubt windows dvd maker can do much for you. Try using handbreak. It's free. But first answer those two questions.

This is normal.

DVD-Video (as in regular DVD's that can be played in normal DVD players) is limited to standard definition 720x480 in NTSC areas (720x576 in PAL land) , so it's going to take a massive quality hit in resolution alone. MPEG2 is also required for DVD, and it's not a very efficient format

Consider using an AVCHD disc, or blu-ray if you want higher resolution, better quality, higher bitrates, better quality codec . But you need a blu-ray player or PS3 to play it.
