Is there any way to match these shots?

I went out and shot my first music video recently, and it all went reasonably well, however there was some issues with footage not being cutting together well after the first nights shooting, so we went back and reshot some of it, and now it cuts together reasonably well. Except these two shots:

The first and second screen grab have a second shot in between them. So it goes something like this:

Guitarist in stripe polo, cuts to bass player on opposite wall, back to guitarist.

Trouble is, these shots were lit differently, and we didnt notice the error until too late. Is there a way I can get the colours to match these in After Effects? Tutorials and fiddling havent helped much. Although I can the guitarist to look ok by applying a quick mask, i just cant get those back wall colours to desaturate.

Tips?

Well, if you want them to match, you're in for some serious work there. First off, the perspective, framing and position of the guitarist are all wrong. Even if you got the color and lighting to match, it'll still be a visual jolt to cut between 'em. The next problem would be that lighting hotspot on the ramp, and the subsequent shadow casted from his leg. That's a big problem. Then you have the problem of he's wearing a wristband in one shot and not in the other.

So, depending on how much you want it to match, there is a good amount of work to be done. I would put in another shot and call it a day if this is the only one that is giving you trouble.

If you really want to fix it, maybe you should pick your battles and think of a more creative way to handle it, getting them to match without too much discontiunity would be tough.

Sometimes, the best way to fix something, is to look for an alternate route. Maybe use a completely different shot right there.

Or possibly, you could change the whole look of both shots. I am not sure how this will reflect on everything else, but I am just rambling here, which might spark an idea for you.

Man, that specular highlight on the ramp, really makes it hard (time consuming) to match up... Actually, I bet you could add the highlight, and roto his leg out of it in under and hour, especially if he isn't moving his leg that much.

I think i may just have to accept that i will be forced to use this shot. Unfortunate.

In terms of perspective and position, it cuts together fine, because the middle shot of the bass player lasts a good 5 seconds, meaning its totally reasonable for the camera/guitarist position to have moved somewhat.

But in the original there is a big fat backlight thats already beened rotoscoped out, causing the highlight. Massive shame that I didnt note it because the first shot looks great.

I cant even roto in the highlight easily because the second shot is a handheld not a still tripod shot.

Gah. I think i could live with it if I could just match the colour on the ramp (lighter browns, softer yellow). And I didnt even notice the sodding wrist band. Thanks guys.

Well, matching the color of the plates isn't too hard...that's actually the easiest thing you have going for you. If I get a chance, I'll download the pics and see what can be done and post results.
