Is there a standard "best" flak jacket? The tan "reporter's jacket"?

Does anybody know the brand/model that regular reporters wear? I've done sound for ABC, but it's been a while and I didn't want to seem like a weenie asking the reporter about his flak jacket.

My best guess is the "reporter's quick jacket"... but I don't know the brand, etc.

It's the tan/beige vest with the pockets... any help on that?

Um, Matt, neither are "Flak" jackets. FJ's or body armor weigh about 15-20 pounds, where as the vests you refer to are in mere ounces.

Richard... I think your top image is the closest I'm going to find. They make those in khaki also... and that's probably good enough. That's just one of those things I've wanted for a while... I don't know why really... I consider it a costume (uniform?) for the times I'll appear on cam when in doc-shooting-mode.

Just like if you want to be a director the first thing you get is the long, rectangular framed glasses.... etc. etc.

If you don't need the stop the bullets part, you should look for a flac jacket shell. The right look, without that weight (remember, the camera adds 50 pounds.....:happy
