Is there a Roger Deakins of screen writiing?

Now what I mean by that title is simply:

- Is there a single or a couple of succesfull (still to this date... not in the 80s) screenwriters who are dishing out valuable advice the same way Roger Deakins is?

I've been looking at YouTube videos, and they always seem to lead either a writing class that wants to be sold out or to a close to non-existant imdb profile or both.

That would be William C. Martell, who has occasionally posted responses to questions here in this form.

He also does seminars at various film fests. He also has a number of 'cheap' books on Amazon for the Kindle (as in $3.99 cheap, cue Alfred E. Newman image...), and in my opinion better than certain 'big name in lights' type of script gurus...


His most recent book is a second book in a series on Hitchcock.

For my money, it is Robert Mc Kee. His book, Story, comes in an audio version. I'd listen to that.

William Martell's material is awesome. He hasn't written a bajillion dollar grossing hit, but that doesn't have anything to do with anything. His instruction is solid and he's been in the trenches forever.

Robert Mckee, on the other hand, is all theory and offers very little by way of nuts-and-bolts tools.
