I have a tape of mixed footage, going through trying to guess by looking at the footage is quite a pain. I want to use a 24p timeline which is why i need the 30i footage to be converted. Thoughts? any thoughts. help
You can easily tell if it's 30p or 24p or 24pa or 60i. Play the tape back in a DVX, and use the "counter" button (inside the LCD panel) to cycle through the options. One of the options will display what frame rate the footage was shot in.
If you've already captured the footage, I don't know if Premiere can tell you or not. If you were editing in Vegas, Vegas can easily tell -- it'll inform you if a clip is 60i, or 30p, or 24p with 2-3 pulldown, or 24p with 2-3-3-2 pulldown. Don't know about Premiere Pro though.
