Is the Rode VideoMic compatible with the Tascam Dr-07 II

I just bought a Tascam DR-07 to use as a pocket recorder for my Lav mics as the setup with the DR-40 was too cumbersome. The Lav mics work fine with the DR-07 and the quality is acceptable.

The problem starts when I connect the Rode VideoMic (NOT Pro) to the DR-07. The recording is distorted and almost non-existent when the jack is plugged in completely. However, if the jack is not completely plugged in the recording is fine though the cable moves and this results in distortion. Any solution for this? I had purchased a Rode VXLR to connect the RodeMic to the DR-40 but that connector doesn't seem of high aulity and the connection is a little loose on the XLR end.

I believe the VM is self powered so your problem is probably that you are feeding "plugin power" to it and it doesn't like it. Try going into the settings and turning off the power to the mic jack.

Well I figured out what the problem was. I had earphones with a mic, plugged in (the ones you get with phones) so it was shorting something. All good now. Thanks
