Is the HVX200 my bloody Valentine?

Green Hornet

Veteran
I was just thinking that for my production to get underway, I may seriously have to get another camera and just get the HVX200 when it matures a bit.

That being said, I will most likely buy something else for now if I can not get my HVX200 by Valentines day.

What other camera would YOU get and why, if you needed something TODAY?

You know Green Hornet,
that is a very interesting point...I have thought about it myself
If the review of the 4 cameras had really noticed a great deal of more noise or less res. I probably would.
now I think I will just get everything else ready.
If the wait becomes absurd...? We will start craving after something else at next NAB

Well, I guess I am now leaning towards the Sony Z1.
I'm a bit disappointed in how the whole release of the HVX has been handled and how it has been so hyped up to keep folks like me interested.
Having said that it sure looked like an interesting camera until I tried to make the workflow fit my upcoming workload. Unfortunately archiving is a real problem for me given that I will be away from the "real" world for extended periods of time during which I will be shooting hours of material.
I also like the fact that I can shoot in NTSC as well as PAL with the Z1.
How the pictures compare is still a mystery...but when all is said and done, it is the content that matters far more than a minor difference in picture quality.
Cheers,
Bruce

Yea if you don't need it all the time then rental is a good option.

I rented the HD-100 two weeks ago and was actually pretty happy with the results. However I'm hoping for more from my eventual HVX purchase. In the meantime though I'll keep renting.

Personally, I wouldn't get any other since my biggest reason for the HVX is the P2, not HD. If HD were the goal, I think the Canon is shaping up to be a fine choice; decent faux-24p, ability to bypass the HDV compression, TC in/out, can add a manual lens.

I believe the HVX is the best choice for my goals but if you have to HDV, Canon seems to have figured out the best way to pull it off (IMHO).

Best
