Hello
I have a small budget and am buying the essentials for my upcomming movie. I Really want to get a Glidecam because of their amazing results, however i can only afford the 2000 model. The glidecam 2000 can support cameras up to 3kg and the dvx100 is only 2kg.
My question is - will the glidecam 2000 work with the dvx100 or is it too small?

i will also be using the formatt fm500 matte box with the glidecam 2000. is that ok?

Matthew,

The 2000 will be fine but if you are adding a rod system with the Matte box I'm not sure what the total weight will be. Should be okay, though. You might want to contact Glidecam direct (they follow up on email very swiftly) and ask them.

If you plan on adding more stuff to the camera in the future, the 2000 may be inadequate.

I have the DVX100A with the Glidecam2000 and it's great. It's a pain on the forearm so I think the mattebox would push it over the weight limit. Buy the brace if you can $150. Anyways...Go for it...but put some time into finding out what you'll have connected to it or attached to it and perfect your balance before you shoot.

If you want to read more about the DVX and GC2000 read through older posts too.

I have the 2000 with mattebox, rods, and a truck plate and it works well. You just need to extend the bottom post all the way and put all the washers on. Its a forearm killer though, they could advertise the glidecam on latenight tv as a exercise device, and it even slides under the bed :)

Re: is the glidecam 2000 too small for the dvx100

I have the GC 2000 Pro and it works great with added accessories of a Mattebox (CAV 3 X 3) and Petrol LCD Hood. As mentioned it is murder on the arm but planning is the key.

Re: is the glidecam 2000 too small for the dvx100

I have a glidecam 2000 sitting in my closet for the past 3 years.  Used about 3 times.

Waste of money for me. What are they going for these days? Mine is in mint condition and is even put in a custom fitted aluminum briefcase.

Have considered selling it numerous times. Unfortunately, I have this terrible habit of keeping things even when I do not use them. Even very expensive things. I got a darn $3000 Roland VS-1680 sitting in a case along side the GC. Geez I never learn!

other than the camera tripod filters...what do you use?

Re: is the glidecam 2000 too small for the dvx100

Borrowed dolly's, monopods and very careful handheld work. I really rely on my tripods though when possible. Not all shots can be obtained this way obviously. However, my line of work doesn't require motion picture moves (yet). :-/

I am considering a jib and/or building my own dolly in the future. Otherwise, I'll just rent when I need it.

I've been thinking about a glidecam, but I don't like the idea of a sore wrist all the time, I shoot a lot quick and tend not to put the camera down long, How hard do you think it'd be to make your out vest, A steady cam system would be sweet. but at $3000 for a glidecam V-8 or higher, It's just remains the picture on my wall. ;)

Re: is the glidecam 2000 too small for the dvx100

I'm ordering a Magiqcam this week... mainly because I am totally sick of hand held stabilizers. I've tried the Varizoom Flowpod and the Hovercam... and both of them are too damn heavy for extended use. The GC 2000's probably better than what I've used, but I would really love to see someone do a long fast paced take with one of these without screwing up. It looks heavy too. Eh, I'm just rambling... no real point.

??? I have an old (7 Years) but seldom used Mini Steadycam that I bought along with my Sony Vx1000 in 1997. Does anybody know if I can use it with my DVX100 and at what setting on the screw mount?

Thanks in advance.
