Is the C01UCW a good mic?

I'm interested in buying the C01UCW
I am filming with a camcorder that is 250$ and has not slot for an external mic so I will clap my hands and sync up the audio + video. I am doing a school project on global warming, and I will be standing in front of a green screen, and have a laptop that will have the mic in it picking up my sound talking from about 5-10ft. Will the audio pick up good? Will it sound very high quality and better then the onboard? If not, anyone recommend a USB one less then 80$?

thanks.

The mic you're looking at is really not designed for production sound. For one thing, you're going to have to get it to well within a foot of the actor's mouth, which will prove a big issue given that its a side-address mic. Booming the mic will be rather difficult, especially without a substantial shock-mount. A better choice would be a wired lav.

In general, you're not going to find a decent mic that terminates in a USB plug. However, there are plenty of entry-level USB audio interfaces on the market that have on-board mic preamps, accept XLR plugs, and provide 48V phantom power. Another option would be borrow/rent an inexpensive mixer or mic preamp and run a line-level signal into the laptop's line input.

If you can find a used Sony ECM-50 wired lav and a used single-channel mic preamp (eg. ART tube MP), you'll be on the right track once you get the neccessary cables and adapters to run into your laptop.

Best of luck with the project.
