I understand the importance for some ppl, and especially ENG. But for me:
- I don't use metadata, except to mark a shot "good", which FCP supports.
- I always import the footage from the camera via firewire into FCP
- For a backup, I can just backup the capture scratch folder rather than the P2 card
So as it is, the only place this would save me time is if I copied the whole P2 card to the HDD first, and then imported the P2 card into FCP. But I don't; it copies straight from P2 into FCP, rewrapping as it goes, which adds hardly anytime on my system to the whole process. And for a backup, like I said, instead of backing up the card i can just backup the capture scratch folder.
So, for THIS particular workflow, does native MXF support matter? Would it really help me much here? Are is that more for other users who want to edit direct from card, or backup multiple cards on the field and then want to import those for editing, or use metadata, etc.?
