I am running a MB Pro from Summer 2007 w/ 2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo, 2 GB 667 MHz RAM, and a not-so-recently replaced GeForce 8600M GT 256mb.

When I import 1080 30p video from my Rebel T2i it skips like mad during playback in Premiere Pro CS4... am I facing the burden of a new system?

One issue: IIRC CS5 is 64-bit only! So I'm stuck with CS4... unless someone can correct me or show me some other solution. I can't believe it! I should be able to edit this stuff w/o issues and its so glitchy I can't even watch it.

To answer your question, you should be able to edit in Premiere Pro w/o a problem. I say this because I'm running CS5 on a MBP w/ 2.2 GHz intel core 2 duo w/ 3GB Ram. Just set your play back resolution to 1/4

The Core 2 Duo is 64bit, IIRC - so like the others say - just use CS5.

Essentially the problem you're having is the problem FCP users experience - H.264 isn't a video editing codec, so if you stick with CS4 you'll need to transcode the footage to work with it. There's plenty of programs to do this.

CS5 has a better decoding solution (through the Mercury Playback Engine) so you can edit well with the H.264 codec.
