I bought an HVX200! I missed it so much, the look the variable frame rates, great audio built right in so I don't need some weird adapter or an H4N or....... I did the DSLR thing with a 5DMKII and I still own a T2i but since I got my HVX a few days ago I really had forgotten how nice it was to have a real vid cam. Are there better cams today? I guess there are but i'm not interested in kitting them out with cages or batt plates or all that other stuff you seem to need just to get them to a point where you can use them. The BMPCC looks good but here again all the extra stuff ya gotta get. I am enjoying my HVX and since the Panny has a simple start/stop system I can hook it up to my motion control system. It will do time lapse which is another thing that interfaces with my moco system. Still a great cam!
OH, almost forgot, NO ROLLING SHUTTER! The bane of the DSLR. Oh last thing, they go cheap now and so do the P2 cards!
Doug, I really loved my HVX200 for that reason... did some really cool mock-moco shots that were possible ONLY with a global shutter camera... any rolling shutter at all would break the trick.
I dug back and found some posts on the technique I used and discussed back on REDUSER... good gosh, 2007. At the time I had not learned that the RED ONE would be a rolling shutter camera, anyway, check out the first page or two and my movie links to the tests...
Hey Jim,
I can't seem to load any off those videos? I'd love to see the technique discussed over there. Back on topic, I have recently purchased an incredibly cheap RedRock M2 Encore complete. I have also purchased some Rokinon prime lenses as well. I really am loving the look of this setup. Is it big? Sure, but the look is great. Good in low light? Ah hell no! But I don't see myself going out at night with this rig. I would just take my T2i. The right tool for the right job. In conclusion, the HVX200 or 200A are still viable capture systems in 2015.
Hmmmmm,
they still don't play for me Jim. I am on a MAC but that shouldn't make a difference as I have seen the other one you posted of the new moco head. A mystery to be sure. No worries.
Thought I would post a pic of my new/old camera setup. The HVX lives! View attachment 106964View attachment 106963
My custom Pana battery adapter I made for my SmallHD DP4 monitor. Man, these old Pana Batts power that thing for days! Seriously! I added a custom top piece that the DP4 attaches to just like a big camera. A custom rail on top is what I am talking about. The best best best part of all of this is these things are going cheap cheap cheap now! I bought some new Rokinon Cine Lenses and the image in 1080/24pa looks great! Well, there it is.
