My editing box has 4 sata drives:
C: raptor
E: raptor
F: wd 250 drive
G: wd 160 drive

Tried to capture to e drive and it was dropping frames, then tried on f and it worked fine. Then tired a short 1 min render AVI on the e drive it took 1:52 ,then on the f it took :25 . I downloaded the western digital trouble shooting software said it was fine so I reformatted it just to be sure and it still has the problem. This is a new problem, has this happened to anyone else? Im using vegas 6

Check in your device manager and see if you IDE/ATA settings in P10 vs DMA enabled

How old is the drive, cause harddrives have about a 4 to 5 year life expectancy.
- this is a lifespan of DIY drives only. The rest of them you should expect ten times longer life:)

I know my external Hard Drives have a life expectancy of 4 to 5 years..... it's like 100,000 hours or something.

EDIT: Oh damn, just re-calculated it; it is about 10 years.

I enjoy your math, however if you apply common sense and estimate even 8 hrs/day for 365 days, you get over 34 years. Any clue what are we going to be dealing with in 34 years?..
