is mpeg4 recording up to MiniDV ?

I am looking into some consumer camcorders that are very very small. Yes, they have many camcorders that record mpeg4 video for around 100-200 bucks. Lowest price on a tiny miniDV cam is 600.
anyway here is this mpeg4 cam

If you want your final output to be for the web then mpeg4 will be fine. If you want your final output to be for web, broadcast, tv viewing, or projection then miniDV is more practical. You have many more options with DV. All depends on what you want to do.

You'll find that the miniDV cam will record higher quality video than the MPEG4 cam. First off, the MPEG4 cam has a maximum resolution of 640x480 compared to the 720x480 resolution of miniDV. Also the MPEG4 picture will be more heavily compressed. If you just want to use it for fun, it could be alright, though.
