Is Livetype ALMOST so good, or do I just not know how to use it?

I was playing with Livetype and impressed with the libray of objects, effects, textures, and livefonts. However, I was very disheartened at some things:

For example, inability to change the font type when using a livefont (so, for example, if you want SPOTLIGHT under the livefont, you can't change the font to BankGothic).

You also can't seem to keyframe effects or live fonts properly. You can change the speed to make a livefont play longer (it plays slower), but you can't make it play longer at the SAME speed and just play longer (for example, skiggly shake effects or making the odometer counter cycle through stuff longer, etc.)

Effects have keyframe controls, but a lot of other stuff doesn't. It would be nice to have full final cut pro-style control over every paramter.

I feel like this is so close to being THE killer app for text, and instead it is just a very handy app with a library of great stuff.

Am I missing something on how to use this? I just feel like there is SO much potential here, unfortunately, a lot of it is left untapped.

I also feel Livetype would be great to have integrated directly with all of the Boris3D text options and what not, directly into FCP...

Maybe in Final Cut Studio 3?

You know, Live Type feels like the gap between a full featured program that happens to also do text and the stuff built into your average NLE. I like playing with it, but like you said, the livefonts are basically templates, like you would find in iMovie or whatever. Someone else likely has more knowledge on this subject than I do; it feels like what Soundtrack is to Protools.

IMO, and I'm picky about this stuff, you have to get your hands dirty anyways to see anything 'cinematic'. That said, I'm pretty sure a couple of the Speed Racer trailers use one of those livefonts. :P

LiveType graphics have become the equivalent of 90's video toaster effects. They are overused, easy to spot and give your project a low rent quality. Use them sparingly.

this is a newb question but is there anyway to you use other fonts from other programs through live type

Good tip. Just wondering though - to who are they easy to recognize? I think a lot of people wouldn't know better.
