I've got a feature planned with a very goofy lead character (think Borat, Napoleon Dynamite, etc). I thought about having the character trademarked legally, thinking that if it is successful I'm in a better position rights wise. The downside to this is that it really requires an attorney to do so and the legal fees aren't cheap. What do you guys think? Is this a waste of money or is trademarking something a wise decision?
