Bag of Douche
Is it unheard of to get a band to play a song by a more prominent group and make a video for it? I'm thinking this because I can't seem to get any local bands to commit to making a video (other than performance stuff - which generally looks like **** on a stick) so if I comission a band and make a really sleek awesome video for them (except to another band's song - in this case one of Orgy's) hopefully that would encourage some of the crack pots in this place to actually realize that I'm not some kid running around with a camera while trying to control my parkinsons disease and lack of editing solution...

But I digress - is this plausible? I thought Matt McDermitt did something like this for his first music video? Perhaps I've been ramming my head into 1 too many cement blocks over the past week though...

I simply cannot believe that you can't find a band or artist that would like a free music video. It shouldn't be that difficult to find an artist that will agree to two days of shooting and the offer to only use the final product on your reel if they don't like it. You just haven't networked enough. Also, don't put down the offer to shoot a live performance. It's good experience and if you do a nice job, the band is much more likely to agree to something more elaborate.

Dude, I would try scouting out coffee shops around town. Alot of times you can find an artist who has really good music, but its just one person, so you don't have to try and coordinate an entire bands time to shoot. (kind of off topic, but whatever)

Ahhh silly people!

I have a band that I am doing a video for (just set up some specifics with them about 30 minutes after this thread was made actually). I'm just curious - as I've seen it done before in terms of videos for reels. I was wondering what the logic of it is or whatnot.

And yes - I am shooting for the actual bands first but I was just wondering if this was a plausible thing to do - or if it's just wierd.

I like when a thread has some ambiguos title like:

Is it unheard of to..?

Come on Monte; say what you mean in the title!

And why would a band do someone else song? That is weird.

Hell, the band I manage, Diesl (http://www.myspace.com/diesl), has played with them a couple times. It's been awhile though. They're pretty good and really cool guys. If anybody would remember me, it would probably be Spidey. That would be a good move for ya.

Yah we're meeting tommorow to discuss some ideas and locations - with the bassist (spidey). Should be good times - when we shoot you're more than welcome to come and make sure I don't **** up the footage by pressing some unknown button on the DVX if you'd like :) if not that's cool too
