Is it TOO real???

I love the Idea. That can put a unbelivable tension on the audience up to the point where some guys leaving the theatre. It will be extreamly polarizing and that´s good.

Don´t start corupting that idea by weaken it with blury effects or whatever.

here is my advice:

1. Have a propper title and credits so everybody knows the film is running as usual.

2. Take 5.1 to the limit. Also power up all noises (insects, motors, doors andwhatnot) to the same level or even more than dialog.

Maybe during operation you start with some red comming in - slowly get all the colour together while still blurry. Special camera movement (out of focus/out of frame/strange tilts and pans) can tell a story of eyes that are not yet used to work propperly. Maybe use a swing tilt effect.

good luck,

Frank

I feel you have seen my script. Your last statement are the last pages of my screenplay. He slowly develops and color begin to appear. Focus in/out

5.1 will be the hardest thing for me.

I will take into account the others opinions, some i liked.

It will be a slow process, but i think overall it will affect the audience differently and for the better.

5.1 will be essential to make it work. If you want them to feel like the deaf person then the sound must be perfect, it will tell your story for 5 whole minutes (and I do think you can get away with 5 to 7 minutes).

You can collect one or two channels and copy them out to 5 channel pairs on your NLE. Then play with the volumes to get your directionality. Once you have this done you can run it through Surcode for matrix encoding. Of course it will be a lot more difficult than this, but that's the high level overview.

I think it's an excellent idea and something I personally would be proud to direct. However pure blackness would be a bad idea. Even if the audio is superb the audience will eventually get bored. YIf your idea is to use lots of colors and things of that nature to sort of represent what is happening i think that would make the film.

Complete blackness is fine for some moments and parts but it's probably best to have the little images so when the audience sees the reality they're like "oh so that's what we've been seeing" (like a certain character.) The audience will start adding their imagination to fill in the characters who are made soley of color so when you bring the characters to life it will shock them.
