Hey Folks

Running a dual2 ghz and I picked up an extra 2gigs of RAM. On a lot of renders my machine is crashing. Not on the software level. But the system is going down. Machine ran great before the RAM. They are two dufferen't types getting it to 4 gigs. But I had 2 differen't at 2.5 and had no issues. Any ideas. Or am I right that I need to exchange. Or should I figure out how to get the same RAM. Thanks for the help.

I have had problems when using two differnt types of RAM in the past. I don't know for sure if this is your prob. But if you take the two sticks out and it works then I would just leave them out and try and get the same kind.

its best to use apple OEM ram, most cheaper ram you get from generic companies maybe will work out at the beginning but over time you will end up with a lot of internal problems.

actually RAM is made by a handful companies and depending on their testing get sold out to different peeps.
My G5 came with Samsung RAM, and I added Crucial and it works very well! The key is to not mix RAM, but sometimes you can get away with similar chips..
My Mini came with Micron and I replaced it with a larger Crucial chip... <micron is crucial..>

I also wouldnt buy cheap RAM but that doesnt mean you need to buy it from Apple..

yeah, the G5 ram is made by Samsung, but its considered apple OEM. All i was saying is get apple OEM ram if you can, even though it is expensive. But better safe than sorry.

It isn't necessicary to get Apple ram. Any ram can be good or bad. What you can do is use the system test that comes on your OSX install disk. It has a pretty decent ram test that should expose any problems.
