is it smart to do some projects for cheap when youve never done the type of video before?

Ive never shot a music video before and today I somehow offered to do one for only $300..... and im kinda okay with it.

Do you think it's smart to offer services really cheap when looking to break into a new market?

Make sure they actually pay you. It's not uncommon for artists to do even pro bono gigs to build up their portfolio.
