Is it safe to use the AT822 with the dVX100a?

The manual explicitly states that the mic should not be used with pahntom powered gear. I would imagine that as long as the Phantom otpion on the DVX is turned off, all would be well. Erm...right?

Also, it would appear that I would need to get a stereo XLR cable made (one female splitting off into two males, wired for stereo). Weird that these cables aren't just available prefab.

I tried what you are describing. I have a AT822 and found a female split to 2 male xlr cable, hooked it up to the DVX, phantom power off and found that the sound wasn't very good. I don't know if the separation in the cable was the right one but it seemed right. The sound came through but the separation in the stereo field wasn't very noticeable. As if the mic wasn't acting like a stereo mic at all.

so i don't know what that is about.
