Is It Really HD?

I am taking footage that was shot on an HVX-200 (to P2 card) that was shot at 960x720. I've just exported the final movie as a QuickTime with the following specs:

-Frame Size: 960x720
-Aspect Ratio: HD(960x720)
-Editing Timebase: 23.98
-Compressor: None

Is this QuickTime file really HD?

Thanks!

well, if you define SD as 720x480, then technically anything larger than that would be HD, so yes a 960x780 resolution would be HD, assuming that the image is clear enough to recognize 960x780 as the original size, and not a blowup from 720x480

Is it still HD even at that frame size/aspect ratio (960x720)?

I was under the assumption that the only true HD aspect ratios were 1280x720 and 1920x1080.

Thanks!

I guess you could make the distinction here between mainstream HD and technical HD. So there's two perspective you could have about. HD meaning video with native resolution higher than SD, or video conforming to the guidlines of mainstream HD products.

I personally vote that if the video was recorded in a resolution higher than standard definition resolution, it should qualify as HD. But thats a point that can be argued endlessly. I guess the real question here is how important is this to what you're doing? You could avoid getting into the mess of 'what is HD' by just calling you footage high quality, high resolution, etc.

Personally though, I say that 960x720 is HD.
