Is it possible...

Okay, I'm new here, in fact this is my first post. I am also new to this whole 35mm adapter lens stuff. I had no idea they even existed until now but I am grateful I found this forum. This place looks AMAZING for me to hang around and get information from the really knowledgeable people here. Anyway, this may be a stupid question, but is it possible to make a 35mm adapter lens from an actual 35mm lens for a still camera. My dad has an old 35mm Canon camera from the 70's-80's and he has like 3 lenses for it. A telephoto zoom lens, a regular one, and a wide angle lens. I was wondering if somehow I could adapt these to work on a consumer camera, specifically a Sony HD cam. I know www.jetsetmodels.info has some plans to make an adapter for consumer cameras. I was wondering if I could somehow rig up these old lenses to work instead of paying $200 for a bunch of parts and have to build one. Once again this question may be really stupid, so excuse my ignorance. So can anyone help me out?

Welcome to the board. I believe if you look here under the 35mm Adapter section you will find a lot of information on the adapters you will need in order to use the your lenses (assuming they are compatible.)

Look at threads for LetusExtreme, Redrock Micro, SGPro, etc.

Ho...

Well I understand those are all 35mm adapters for cameras...but maybe I am missing something. The 35mm lenses you are talking about on here, are they the same as any 35mm lens for a 35mm camera or are they modified in some way? I've been reading up all I can, but I can't find anything about using actual 35mm lenses from a still camera to be used on a consumer camcorder.

Thanks for the post guys, I did read that thread earlier today, but I'm still quite confused and I apologize. I added you on AIM Timur if you want to jump on for a quick chat, if you don't mind.

I've been pouring over these boards, I just don't know where to start for the answer to my question. For instance, are 35mm adapters for video cameras the same as 35mm lenses for still cameras? If so, then it would be possible for me to do this correct? Or are the 35mm adapters different, hence the name "adapter"? I just jumped into all this and I feel lost, I know there are lenses out there like the ones HoGiHung mentioned, but I don't want to buy any of these because I don't have $500+ to spend. I would make my own for about $200 off that site I listed, but if I already have what I need, then I don't want to waste my time. I feel like I'm being a noob, and I apologize.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. I'm surfing threads and left a comment for Mark's 'Constance' vid here by accident!

MechSpike, I think you're confusing the 35mm lens with the adapter. They are in fact two completely different things. The lens remains unaltered, and the adapter is the piece of equipment that is attached to the camera in between the camera body and the 35mm lens so that the camera can look through the 35mm lens.

Yes you're right , I was confusing those two. Thank you. So how hard and how much is it to build one of these. I already have 3 35mm lenses I just need an adapter and I don't have $ to buy one.
