I'm thinking about picking up the G2 wireless system. I know i am going to have a few gigs where i need to shoot with a host so a wireless handheld mic would be great.

But is there an easy way to hard wire a handheld mic into the normal transmitter so you dont have to buy the "Wireless Plug-In Transmitter System"

ha i know i'm trying to be cheap, but most of my work does not have a Host so i rather not buy the mic transmitter if i dont need it.

are you using a mixer or just an adaptor. Doesnt the g2 take a mini input and not an xlr? right?
 
You can get a xlr to mini cable, but if your mic doesn't have a built in power supply, you will still need to add a phantom power supply to go with it. Denecke and PSC make them, or you can get an MM1 or MP1 from Sound Devices (I'm getting the MM1 to go with my Zaxcom wireless kit for wireless boom.)

I have a cable with xlr to the mic and the mini to the transmitter and I battery power my K6/ME64
 
If adapting a balanced dynamic handheld to the G2 bodypack transmitter, remember that the mic input is unbalanced (the connector is mini TRS but only one of either the tip or the ring connections plus the sleeve is actually used at any one time - a cable with the tip is hot and ring unconnected is used when connecting a mic level source to the transmitter while the reverse, a cable with ring hot and and the tip unconnected, is used to connect a line level source) and that the stock lav mics are condensor mics needing a few volts of power that the transmitter is supplying through the jack's tip connector similar to a consumer device's plugin power. When wiring the adapter TRS tip goes to XLR pin 2, TRS sleeve goes to XLR pin 3, and TRS ring remains unconnected so the mic is going to the mic level input side of things. That means the mic power voltage will be placed directly across the mic's coil - probably to its detriment - unless you remember to include a blocking capacitor. Probably not enough current to make it smoke but I'd worry about the effect on the mic's sound as it will put tension the diaphram.

A dynamic might not have enough output to drive the G2 mic input properly.
