Instead of selecting the Blade Tool, then hovering over with the mouse to make your cut and then making the cut, is it possible to add an edit to a clip with a single keystroke wherever the playhead position is?

Command-B should do it.

You can remap your keyboard shortcuts however you want. I set mine up to make the / key the add edit key, just like FCP7. Takes one keystroke away from the Command+B
