Is it my computer?

So for those of you who do not know, I have been involved in the soap opera in attempting to converting my AVCHD files into a more manageable format.

I have been having mixed results which has been driving me nuts because I feel like I am onto something and then it implodes. But now I am wondering is it because of my computer?

This is what I use.

I also have a 500GB Western Digital Internal hard drive.

You definitely need something more powerful. I don't think it even meets the minimum specs for PPCS4.

Forget about trying to edit AVCHD natively. Even encoding to cineform or DNxHD will be fruitless. At minimum: a dual core, and recommended at least a quad core.

Thanks for the response.

Just to clarify I am using Premiere Elements 8

I use Premiere Pro CS3 myself.

I'm interested to know how you find editing in Premiere Elements - particularly
with a soap opera in HD. I always assumed it was "consumer" grade and couldn't
handle complex edits for broadcast.

Good luck with your project. You will indeed need a faster computer. Check
out this link for some examples of editing systems.
