Is it me, or did toothbrushes get weird?

Yeah yeah... possibly the most mundane thread ever, but if you have a preference for a standard, non-powered toothbrush go ahead and say so... and why you like it.

I've been using a colgate total for years (normally buy a few at a time then replace from the vanity as needed)... That brush had some unique design, and you could feel it doing what they said it did... and when I went out to get a few more I found nothing but neon toys with five kinds of goofy on the end.

I bought two different oral-b brushes and they both suck. The apparent science involved doesn't seem to translate well in performance... my teeth definitely felt cleaner with my old choice... now I can't believe I'll have to order them on the net.

Do you find any of these modern brushes with rubber nubs, imitation dental polishers (if the thing doesn't spin then why have that rubber cup that only LOOKS like the dental polisher in the bristles?)... and "tooth-shaped" cross-sections... Do any of these "high-tech" toothbrushes work? Or is the economy so bad that all these companies have to produce stuff that just LOOKS all bright and techy?

Most modern brushes look like sneakers to me.

I prefer something like that:

Made from cellulose acetate with pig or badger bristles.

But I´m kind of old school, so ignore me.
