Is it harder or easier to make it as a filmmaker in 2013?

Faith Granger came here and with a bit of advice made her first feature for around $40k. It was both a critical and financial success and she was able to quit her day job and become a fulltime indy filmmaker. That was only a few years ago. She was able to demonstrate what it takes to be a REAL filmmaker.

Faith has the perfect name, and part of her success is the story of Faith. It's hard NOT to want to support someone doing what she did with the sheer determination she had doing it. She attributes a lot of her success to luck, and while there's truth in that, she also knocked on (beat down?) the all doors that luck was behind -- she wouldn't have found it if she hadn't. It's already been said in the thread -- "luck" is spelled w-o-r-k.
