Is H.265 coming or not?

I honestly expected that most of these cameras that shoot 4k (including smartphones) would adopt H.265 as the standard codec, but the vast majority are using H.264. We can argue that most consumers will never really need anything more than 4K on flat screens, which may be true. If so and if H.264 can handle that just fine, then why even have H.265? I understand that it's a huge amount of data weight-off-the-shoulders by using more compression, but that hasn't stopped anyone so far from using 4K with H.264.

I know UHD Blu-ray will use H.265 when it comes out and Skylake chips from Intel will hardare decode that codec. So I guess it's really just a matter of time. I just figured it would already be in full swing by now. But as time goes on I question more and more if it's really needed.
