is comedy the toughest to write?

I've heard that from people, but I find it easier than other genres. What do you guys think?

I don't know

I hate writing; but love to have written. Comedy does not strike me as any harder than anything else; And I am one funny mother poo poo.

Then again, looks aren't everything

Comedy is the toughest to produce. People get cranky on a comedy. Horror, on the other hand, is a freaking blast to shoot. I don't really see one genre being more of a pain to write than another. I'll echo John here and say that I really hate writing.

Well, judging from the latest greatest Hollywood stuff showing at your local Multi-Giga-Many-Plex...

Comedy is impossible to write.

Agreed.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Oh I Love To Write Comedy........well I Laugh At It. And The Funny Thing Is I'm Writing How I Think And Talk Sometimes, I'm Just Being Me And Not Trying To Get A Laugh From Anybody But Then I Read It Afterwards And I'm Laughing My Ass Off. It's When They Try So Hard To Get A Laugh By Any Means Possible When It Is Really Dumb.

Honestly, I do think comedy's harder to do. One thing is, in drama, you have a lot more lee-way putting a performance together in the editing room, than you do in comedy. I think it's a LOT easier to salvage an imperfect performance in a drama, than comedy.

I know that's not writing, but...

Of course the old scribes' adage is "...anyone can make an audience cry; it takes real talent to make 'em laugh."

Personally, I think both are equally difficult in their own way, and both must be approached delicately.

I don't think you can say any one genre is hardest of all...it is really on a case-by-case basis. When you got flow, you got flow (no matter what the poo poo genre or sub-genre your imagination is laying down.) When it's streaming out of you, go with it NO MATTER WHERE it takes you...'cause when the "block" comes, it comes hard.

If a gun was put to my head, and I had to say one genre was the most scarce to come by creatively...it'd have to be Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Wait scratch that! It would have to be GOOD Sci-Fi/Fantasy.

Goddamn I'm pissed drunk right now.

golly gee wally i'm sorry. i forgot to click the other key cause lord knows we got some intellectuals on this here board.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Lol, now you've got nothing capitalised.

Anyway i think the hardest to pull off is those genre crossing titles - such as 'Click', or 'Spanglish'. They had their intensely funny moments, and their intensely sad ones too. Not to mention a strong and coherent story and sense of meaning throughout, all the while never crossing into 'Monty Python' style stupid comedy. I find that anyone who can pull that off is a genius in my book

he didnt write or direct those i believe...just acted in em and executive produced it. And now that you mentioned it, yeah they're both adam sandler movies...ah well they're the two most recent shows i watched. Well if i have to quote other titles, i'd say Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and all Pixar movies :D
