Is Cavision Matteboxes and follow focus good?

We all know that Chrosziel is the "Nike" when it comes to matteboxes and follow focus equipment, but how does the MUCH MORE affordable Cavision brand equipment hold up?

Re: Is Cavision Matteboxes and follow focus good?

I have the cavision 4x4 matte box (not the accordian style)
I am happy with it for the most part although the rotating filter tray is unstable and takes some time to get used to. It can come out of alignment when you try to rotate it. you'll need to carry jewlers screw drivers in the field to tighten the frame up occasionally to help reduce the problem.

you also NEED the rod support system for mounting - the "clip on" feature is useless, I can't believe they claim that it will reliably stay on with it.

I've got the same 4 x 4" Cavision set up and have had less trouble with the clamping ring. It has not yet fallen off, but I do tend to really go tight on it. I recommend the iris rods too, though I have not yet purchased the follow-focus.

The single rotating stage is a little loose, but not unworkable. You really should use an underscan monitor with this system to make sure that rotating stage doesn't come into the lower frame - specifically when using polarizers.
