Is anyone flat f*&^%$ broke?

It's been pretty good for me actually. One of the benefits of being on the ass end of the industry is that when times are tough, and clients are looking to save money, they go to freelancers like me who have very little overhead.

Agreed as well. 2009 was my best year yet, as my business is just a side business - absolutely no overhead at all. So I can charge whatever I want and still profit, without having to worry about putting food on the table.

They got rid of the equivalent of a full shift at work so I had my hours cut in half at my TV job in June, and after a few summer projects there ended, now I'm hurting.

The flip side? I have a set schedule (it used to be all over the place), and most of my weekends off (first time that's happened since I was 16, and I turn 32 next week), and can spend some time trying to develop my side video business.

There is opportunity in everything, you only need to look for it.

speaking from the perspective of a young adult in NYC, its hard to find any work. I was able to complete an internship late 2008 which provided me with a contract position at the firm, but thier client based dried up dramaticly in 2009, as did my job there. Most of my college graduate friends are finding themselves in similar positions. I was temped to offer shooting and editing services for dirt cheap, but after completing 2 gigs, abandoned the practice as it doesn't pay. I began applying to legitimate internships again earlier this month but none will have me, as "experienced professionals" are applying for the same positions. I'm actually getting kinda desperate for work now. I'm used to it, but being broke sucks. :violin:
