For all my interest in audio... I'm totally green on the whole FTP thing, but it seems a lot of sound files are on servers that must be accessed with an ftp client like bit torrent or something like that.

Does anybody know which one I should load in my computer and how all that works?

Or could you point me to the best place to get the basics down on that?

I don't want to just download the first ftp program and later have it be a mistake or a doorman to virus problems.

Thanks for your help.

FTP's just a simple protocol - one of the first 2 or 3, back with telnet. You don't really need anything fancy for it, and most web browsers will handle it (for downloading) - just use ftp://
rather than http:// in the url.

Mac OS X handles FTP in the finder or from the command line. I'm sure there's plenty of simple, free software for Windoze. What platform are you on?

Thanks... I had a feeling that should be easier then I was making it out to be.

I've been wanting to audition recorders via some online files and nobody just straight up POSTS them anywhere... it's always off some ftp server.

...but, like I said, if you put the address into your browser (with an ftp:// url) it should work.
