is an LCD TV good for previewing??

I just purchased a 13" LCD TV for previewing edits in vegas. I know this may be a dumb question, but the box states 640x480 resolution.

I know that NTSC DV is 720x480. This LCD TV isnt actually lower in resolution than a standard 13" interlaced TV?

Isnt normal interlaced television like 525xsomething?

Is an LCD TV not a good choice to preview edits in Vegas since they are progressive (or maybe they are not- interlaced??)

I simply cant afford a production monitor becuase of the price, and a good television wont work becuase it throws my CRT out of wack (I tired diff refresh rates and I cant move the TV away from the CRT because the desk is to small.)

What are your thoughts on using LCD TV to preview?

Thanks,

Ed

It's about pixel aspect ratio -- square vs. rectangular. The 640x480 of the TV is equivalent to the 720x480 of DV.

The 525 number refers to analog scan lines of a CRT.

I don't use an LCD TV myself, but I know people who do to good result. If it were me, however, I wouldn't because I wouldn't trust the color to be NTSC accurate. (If that's not an oxymoron, of course.)

thanks David, is there any way to get this LCD TV as close to NTSC as possible? Can it be calibrated in the same manor as a normal telvision?

Thanks,

I will try to calibrate it, but I am leary about using this LCD. I am tempted to return it and just get a 9" CRT, that way it can move farther away from the other CRTs. I dont know :(

a quick question, since this LCD has no blue mode, could I do this to the Vegas color bars?

would this be the same as using a blue gel?
