Is Adobe Encore CS4 Ready for Professional DVD/Blu-Ray creation?

I've been using Adobe Encore since Version 1.0. I'm Fed up.

Adobe Encore has always been a great application because of its integrated workflow. Its easy to create custom menus and DVD structures by just using software that you already know how to use in the Adobe Suite.

Adobe Promises that the software is ready for professional DVD creation, and now Blu-Rays. However in my practice I cannot ever finish a project without having to scale back the amount of menus, or titles because of ram limitations.

No matter how much ram you have in your system, no matter what OS you run, by the time you hit about 1400MB of ram usage in Encore, the entire program quits on you.

"Out of Memory". I have 8GB of ram in my current system. Total system ram usage is at 50% (Because Vista Superfetch will keep half of your ram in use at all times).

It doesn't matter how many programs I have open or closed. As soon as Adobe Encore approaches the 1400MB usage, the entire program stops working. You can't compile. You can't work for very long. That's it.

I tried downloading a CS4 trial to see if Encore CS4 fixes some of the ram limitation problems that have been there since version 1.

Well I can't even try it! Apparently you need a key to start Encore. Encore doesn't work in "Trial mode".

I wish Adobe would tell us these things... Who wants to start a class action lawsuit against Adobe? They promise Professional DVD creation, but the product doesn't deliver.

...Unless you concider professional DVDs 5 menus, 2 titles, and staying to their templates. Thats what the tech support person told me this over the phone:

  1. We don't support user created menus
  2. 18 menus is too many for encore to handle. (DVD allows 99 maximum, and Blu-Ray allows 9999 maximum)
  3. We don't know if CS4 will fix your issue
Fun.
