HI...

If I transfer footage to my computer from the DVX, work on it, then, do a tape export back to the DVX,

is that transfer back and forth really lossless?

Is digital tape to computer to and back to digital tape a safe play for no resolution loss?

Any audio loss as well?

Thanks!

that's the beauty of digital.

They only way you can loose any quality is if you were to do any recompressing which it doesn't sound like you're doing.

You must ensure that you do not 'Recompress' when you export your movie. It is a check box that is easily overlooked. (Lefyt unchecked you will lose quality due to re compression)

Wait, does that mean when editting you shouldn't compress?!?!

Compress??

DV is already compressed and will loose quality every time it is recompressed. Anything that is rendered will be recompressed back to DV at 5:1 compression (although higher quality codecs or uncompressed timelines can be used to retain quality if outputting to a higher standard media like DigiBeta).

Standard cuts only editing will loose no quality at all in DV if outputed without recompression.

No , it means when you export a movie you have a choice whether to Recompress or not.

It is your choice but I can not imagine why anyone would want to Recompress anything.
