Is 174 hours use considered high for a used dvx100?

Hi

I'm considering buying a used dvx100a which i believe has been well looked after but has 174 hours use. Is this something I should be careful of? The price is around $2,200 which is about average for a used camera in the uk.

Thanks

Dan

no i dont think thats very high at all.I would ask if it has been used as a deck though. And ask if he has been consistent with the use of the same type of tapes.

Thanks for the advice. If they tell me it has been used as a deck do you think I should steer clear? What is the significance of using the same type of tapes?
cheers
Dan

I bought mine nearly two years ago and it has over 300 hours on the heads. I do use mine as a deck unlike other people but this is the way I think- Vegas captures your footage in one fell swoop, no stopping or starting. Its the starting and stopping that stresses the heads. Its probably even good to allow it to run freely once in a while like your car, to clear dust etc.

Anyway if the heads wear out buy firestore or dvrack and it'll still work!

well if you are going to switch to panasonic tapes, the MQ brand, which are dry and dont leave any muck on your heads, Please do a thorough head cleaning on your camera.Switching tapes and especially brands is not recommended.Find out what type of tapes they were.By that I mean quality of the tape.Wet?Dry? Cheapos from Walmart?Dont switrch from wet to dry tapes, you'll definatley "F" something up. A head cleaner tape might work, but I would seriously consider getting it done professionally.Im sure you paid hard earned money for your cam, better to be safe than sorry.
