is 10-bit uncompressed SD video 4:4:4?

No, "video" is never 4:4:4. Computer graphics imagery can be 4:4:4, but a video signal is always, at max, 4:2:2.

So it depends on where the images are coming from. If from a video camera or through HD-SDI, it'll be 4:2:2. You can force dual-link HD-SDI to send 4:4:4 but that's a whole different kettle of fish.

Barry, can you point to a resource that would put into detail this "kettle of fish" that is 4:4:4?

I thought the Sony F950 could spit out 4:4:4 over dual-link HD-SDI? If this isn't possible how can they advertise this?

It can. But what it's outputting doesn't qualify as "video", it's RGB computer data at that point. Small technicality I guess, but are there even any monitors that support dual-link HD-SDI? I thought it was pretty much relegated to capture boards. Could be wrong though.

I am pretty sure it is for outputting to a HDcam deck only. I thought I heard them say this is what they did for SW Episodes 2/3.

The question is does the HDcam spec allow for 4:4:4?

What about the Andromeda for the DVX100? Isn't that uncompressed 12 bit footage via USB?

HDCAM itself, no -- HDCAM is a 3:1:1 format (about halfway between 4:1:1 and 4:2:2).

HDCAM-SR provides for the ability to record 4:2:2 or 4:4:4. It's their ultra-top-end recording format, several notches above HDCAM.
