IR filter behind adapter?

Has anyone tried to sandwich an IR hot mirror type filter behind an adapter ( b/n the camera and the achromat)

This is mainly a question for anyone with a camera like the EX-1 that has problems with IR contamination in the blacks.
Filters like the Schneider 486 will produce green vignetting at wide angle. I'm wondering about use behind an adapter since that eliminates the wide angle issue However the hot mirror filters reflect light and are only supposed to be used as the outermost filter ibn general. Wondering if it might be OK in the adapter scenario.
This is a question for people who've actually tried it, not random speculation please.

You'd have to try it, Lenny. I get a lot of hot mirror interference just shooting with one in a mattebox on the RED. Especially if I'm tripled up on filters.

I can't figure why it would do anything odd aside from reflecting an image back onto the ground glass and ghosting if you send light directly down the barrel. A really bright and direct source, I mean

Thanks Kholi - that would be odd enough for me though. I'll get to try it myself this week and will make a special effort to look at a hot source.
Against all odds I'm hoping maybe the fact that the hot mirror would be reflecting back at a curved achromat night possibly behave in a way that would be less problematic. It's a long shot but you never know.

When you have it in a matte box with the RED why isn't it the outermost filter so you don't have reflections? Actually reflections are always a problem anyway with multiple filters - especially on night shots where there's often doubling of car lights.

Right. Call me strange and this is probably wrong but I also think the back of it is netting some of that extra reflection and bouncing it back stronger than normal filters. I saw a complete image of my lens on the LCD last monday.

Eep,.

It's usually on the outer side as well.

This kinda adds a bit of danger to the soup, because mirrors/IR ND's are really becoming an integral part of shooting with CMOS cameras. =(

I just did a preliminary sloppy test at home this evening and the results are happy.
First the 486 really takes care of the IR issue and the green vignetting is not as bad as I expected though its definately there.
I tried it on my EX-1 behind my Letus Extreme and so far do not see any green vignetting even with a 24mm Nikon. More careful tests to follow. I have heard others complain about the same issue so I need to check more carefully though.
