1. Is it mandatory to keep the folder with all of my music on it on my computer in order for Itunes and the IPod to recognize and play it ?

2. Can I delete a song(s) and still expect it too stay on the Ipod even after plugging it in and doing a new update ?

Tks Macheads!

You can tell iTunes and your iPod you want to update it manually. That way you will manage your songs yourself. Not allowing iTunes to do it for you.

If you use Sync your iPod will loose the song that you deleted from iTunes.

Q1 . No it's not mandatory. Of course if something happens to the ipod there isn't a backup if it isn't on the computer.

Q2. Yes and No. The ipod can be set to pretty much three main options

Option 1. You can set it to automatically update all songs and playlists when you plug it in. So what will happen is whatever songs are in your library will be the only songs on your ipod.

Option 2. You can set it to automatically update only specific playlists however the same thing will happen as before if the songs are gone on the computer they will leave the ipod.

Option 3. This is the option you want. Set your ipod to manually update songs and playlist and what happens is that itunes will only remove or add a songs when you manually click and drag it on or off the ipod. This is the option I use and it allows you to plug your ipod into multiple computers.

* Note : Option 3 is only for ipods with a screen. The shuffle is not able to be set in manual mode.

Now there is a third sub option and that is you can set the ipod to only update checked songs but the songs would still have to be on the computer to qualify
