Hi there i just bought a Video iPod 30GB & as i had iTunes i just plugged it in via the USB cable to transfer my music library thinking i dont need any drivers to run iPod as its USB2 & my previous USB2 mp3 player didnt require any drivers on SP2 .... you cant blame me i was so excited i didnt install the cd... it says clearly on the CD install Cd before connecting your iPod... and now the iPod is not responding its completely frozen.. i have installed the CD and connected it again and windows says it does not recognise the device.... i cant turn it off nor move up down in the menu... the screen is still on after about an hour... what shall i do?
i guess i will have to wait for the battery to drain out then try connecting it again... i hope i havent void the warranty... please help
thanks

cool so i just go back & say its defective & not tell them that i connected it without installing the cd first? :undecided or tell them the truth... will it matter ?

It's unlikely that you did any damage to it by connecting it without the software. I sounds defective to me.

before you return it I would try reseting it;

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
3. If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
4. If this doesn't work, then you need to leave the ipod on until its battery is completey drained. Plug it in and when it charges enough go to #1. Repeat as needed.

Thank you sink for offering some help. More than likely the ipod isn't defective. The Sw sometimes freezes up. 90% of the time a reset will fix the problem.

What sink said. I've got an iPod, last generation, and once in a while you need to reset it. :thumbsup:

thanks for the replies friends, the battery ran out & i put it back on the dock & it looks like its working i am in the proccess of copying my music over...

That's also a good idea. If the ipod locks up while the HD is spinning just wait for the battery to drain and charge it back up and the other %20 of the time that should work. Remember it just like a computer if your computer locks up reboot , but the problem with the ipod is that it never turns fully off unless the battery dies and the button are linked to the SW on the ipod so if the SW totally stops responding a reset is out of the question.
