Sorry if this is a basic question/effect...
Anyone know how they used to do those effects in music videos where the singer (or whoever) would be silhouetted by his own cutout in different colors??? Ipod commercial or funky video/usually girls dancing style...

tried to find an example but couldn't...thank you forum

(my first post ever)

Greensceen, then apply the green screen matte to a solid color. After Effects, Combusion, Shake, Digital Fusion, Inferno, apps like that can do it.

You don't have to green screen but it is one way of shooting it.

I've done stuff in the past with a white out studio and stopping down the iris until you lose all detail in the person or persons your shooting on the studio floor (foreground). This way should be more than enough to get a very good matte to play with and this method actually works better than green screening as you have superior edging/color seperation to work with.

Hope that helps:

Well than I need to get some After Effects skills, don't I. Thanks for the response. I'll post results after, and you can let me have it.

You need some keying skills, that's for sure. There isn't much to do in AE itself for this particular effect.

Green screen the talent, take it to after effects and drop the green out. Then apply a drop shadow with hard edges and make the layer transparent. The person will dissappear but the drop shadow will stay.
