I was thinking about turning my iPhone into something a little different, better audio and interesting optics. Ok. Schneider Optics has this case for the iPhone that has a locking adapter over the camera that allows wide angle and fish eye optics. They hav a macro and telephoto in the works. Anywho, I am wondering about getting better audio on the iPhone. What do you think about this

Rode NTG2 (has battery so won't drain iPhone so fast), connected to Shure X2u XLR and then USB out. USB in to iPhone to USB adapter. The X2u has a headphone out so audio can be monitored. I am sure audio gain is auto on the iPhone, so nothing to do about that.

Shure X2u:

It might work? I was thinking about going around shooting interviews at a trade show with it.

I would be extremely surprised if the iPhone could use the signal from a X2u as a generic audio interface with a USB to dock connector adaptor. You would very likely need something like the TASCAM iXZ interface.

That tascam piece is made to work with a specific app. It won't work when using the video camera. Someone needs to make a video camera app that recognizes audio decives...
