IPHONE 7 PLUS VIDEO: Arizona Biltmore Resort (Optical Zoom Lens & Low-Light Project)

Arizona Biltmore Resort. Shot with iPhone 7 Plus. 4K down sampled to 1080p.

This project was intended to sample best quality, the optical zoom lens function, and low-light performance in 4K mode.


The optical zoom performed very well in good light, but as you'll see, its 2.8 aperture suffered in low-light. In these cases, zoom with your feet and use wide angle still applies.


Low-light in 4K? What do you think? To me it appears no better than my previous iPhone 6 Plus. A 1080 project will soon be available for low-light comparison viewing.

It's very interesting to watch the development and radical improvement of digital video since you posted the GH2 version of your Biltmore shoot.

Honestly - I think I like the iPhone 7+ the best so far, although it still can't handle the faster movements that maybe the GH3 could.

It's monstrously helpful they way you hit most of the same settings and views from version to version.

Thank you for the encouraging words DP. This digital video adventure we've been on for so many years has been a hoot. Who would have thought a smartphone would be producing the results we're seeing.

I promise I'll soon be shooting a 60p project for us to compare.
